Time to serve

This study was taught at our Sunday evening service by Sim Forder, one of our pastors, on the 31st January 2021. You can listen to the audio on this web page or save it for later listening.

In this study we considered the danger of idleness, the problem of busyness and the cost of serving – but also our need, and our motivation to do it. The problem often, is our calendar:

We are always falling in love or quarrelling, looking for jobs or fearing to lose them, getting ill and recovering, following public affairs. If we let ourselves, we shall always be waiting for some distraction or other to end before we can really get down to our work.

CS Lewis

So great is the need to serve, so many are the reasons to do it, that it can be almost overwhelming, and for that reason we should pray that God would lead us as to how and where He would have us serve, and pray that He would sustain us in the work He has called us to:

Do not pray for easy lives. Pray to be stronger men. Do not pray for tasks equal to your powers. Pray for powers equal to your tasks. Then the doing of your work shall be no miracle, but you shall be the miracle.
