Malachi 2:1-10

This study is part of our series of verse by verse studies of Malachi, the 39th book in the Bible. Taught by Sim Forder, one of our pastors, at our Sunday evening service on the 18th April 2021. You can listen to the audio on this web page or save it for later listening.

The summary of chapter two, which we looked at in this study is:

• The responsibility of Godly leadership
• Our response to Godly leadership and His Word
• Ungodly relationships
• Broken marriages

In this study we focussed on the first 10 verses, where God rebukes the priesthood for not having their heart in what they were supposed to do, and not putting a stop to the unacceptable sacrifices being offered by the people in chapter 1. Instead they should have faithfully spoken God’s law, with the clear parallel to today being how pastors are to be faithful in their teaching of God’s Word; their primary, responsibility.

I believe that the sole duty of the pastor of a church is to teach the Word of God. God have mercy on the church that expects its pastor to be the public relations man, running all over the countryside visiting sick babies and burping them, and expects him to spend his time in the administration of church affairs when he should be studying the Word of God and then teaching it to his people.

J Vernon McGee

We also considered how we should hunger for God’s Word, as when our relationship with Him is broken, our other relationships soon find themselves on dangerous ground.

As God is exalted to the right place in our lives, a thousand problems are solved all at once.
