Simply teaching the Bible, simply

Genesis 1:24-2:3

This study is part of our series of verse by verse studies of Genesis, the 1st book in the Bible. Taught by our pastor, Simeon Forder, at our Sunday morning service on the 16th July 2023.

About this book

Genesis is the first book in the Bible, and in its more than 1500 verses, there are over 50 prophecies, 100+ commands, over 70 promises, and almost 100 distinct messages from God. As well as recording the firsts of so many things — including the first marriage, sin, child, murder, death, laughs, tears — this book also explains God’s established order in all things; from creation to Israel, marriage to tithing, and all before the law is even mentioned. But ultimately, this book points to Jesus as our Saviour, not only in obvious ways, but in its smaller details too.

About this study

On day six we read that God created all animals, and then created mankind in His own image, distinct from the rest of His creation. And therein is the why God created — for our good, and His glory. And that great truth means that what we read in Genesis and the rest of the Bible are inseparable. We cannot do away with either. In this study we look at some of the reasons why we can have confidence in what we read, and what the implications are if we don’t.

Application questions

  • God set the boundaries and distinctions in all His creation. Are you prepared to let God set the boundaries in your life?
  • Are you honouring God in how you treat all He has made, neither worshipping it or neglecting it?
  • How can you better set apart time for the things of God? How might you commune with Him and His people more on Sundays?
