Friendships

This study was taught at our Sunday evening service by Jon Gunne on the 6th June 2021. You can listen to the audio on this web page or save it for later listening.

Summary of this study

Friendships should be something that Christians excell in – whether as those that comfort, or those that correct (see our study from our morning service the same day here). And throughout the Bible we see how good and helpful strong friendships are. But friendship comes with a cost – we can’t be selfish and selfless at the same time, and so laying down our lives in one regard or another will be necessary (see John 15:13, Matt 22:37).

Series overview: The big areas of our lives

During this series we’ll take a look at 11 topics – one each week – that affect us, our families, our friends, and our church family. We’ll be looking at what the Bible has to say about Education, Career, Finances, Time, Friendships, Singleness & relationships, Marriage, Children, Health & illness, Death, and Church.

Why look at these topics? Well, God has given us everything we need for every area of our lives, so that we know how we should live and conduct ourselves in these areas, our foundation for this series being the first 4 verses of 2 Peter chapter one…

Simon Peter, a bondservant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who have obtained like precious faith with us by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ: Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

2 Peter 1:1-4
