This study is part of our series of verse by verse studies of Exodus, the 2nd book in the Bible. Taught by our pastor, Simeon Forder, at our Sunday morning service on the 25th October 2026.
About this book
The book of Exodus is more than just a historical account — it is an essential read for every believer. But Why? Well, first it shows us God kept His promises regarding Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob’s descendants. That indeed He would make a great nation of them while they were in Egypt. It also shows us God’s strength, and protective nature in bringing His people out of slavery. And third we can learn much from Moses’ and Israel’s behaviour that so often mirrors our own. But also, in it we see the law given, not to save us, but to show us how very much we need a Saviour.
About this passage
In chapter four Moses’ questions continue, with God giving answers and three clear signs he could show the children of Israel if they didn’t believe him. But, Moses, far from self-confident any more, continues to doubt that God could use him, and despite God’s assurances, Moses asks God to send someone else, which angers the Lord. But, with God’s assurance that his own brother, Aaron, will be his spokesman, Moses eventually concedes, and in the second half of the chapter we see him depart from his father-in-law’s house, head for Egypt, meet his brother at mount Sinai, and speak to God’s people, telling them that God had heard their cries.
