Advent calendar: Day 14 – Christmas songs

How soon is too soon for Christmas songs? Regardless of what we think, it’s pretty hard to get them out of your head once you’ve heard them start — whether that’s because we’ve heard them so many times before, or because the tune (at least sometimes) is such a good one.

But at the first Christmas, the angels sang a song that was memorable, not for it’s tune or the poor choice of costume by the singer, but because of what it’s words said — declaring that there could finally be peace with God, because of this baby, Jesus, who had come to save the world from sin. And because of this good news, the joy that Christmas brings isn’t something to only be felt at Christmas, but felt all year round for those who have put their hope in Jesus Christ to save them.
