2 Corinthians 2:1-17

This study is part of our series of verse by verse studies of 2 Corinthians, the 47th book in the Bible. Taught by Sim Forder, one of our pastors, at our Sunday evening service on the 13th February 2022. You can watch or listen on this web page or save the audio for later listening.

Summary of this study

In this chapter of his second letter to the church in Corinth, Paul explains the reason he had not visited in person, was that he wanted to do so in happiness, not heaviness of heart. That is, he didn’t want to visit and spend all his time correcting their behaviour, as permissible as that would be – he wanted to come and encourage them, and be encouraged by them.

Next, he addresses their reaction to his first letter in regard to the individual called out in 1 Corinthians chapter 5 – while the church had listed and dealt with the sin, they had taken it too far and now were failing to forgive and restore this man into the church family. Finally, Paul speaks of the remarkable and total victory that we have in Jesus, the result being the gift of eternal life!
