Simply teaching the Bible, simply

Genesis 41:1-57

This study is part of our series of verse by verse studies of Genesis, the 1st book in the Bible. Taught by our pastor, Simeon Forder, at our Sunday morning service on the 30th June 2024.

About this book

Genesis is the first book in the Bible, and in its more than 1500 verses, there are over 50 prophecies, 100+ commands, over 70 promises, and almost 100 distinct messages from God. As well as recording the firsts of so many things — including the first marriage, sin, child, murder, death, laughs, tears — this book also explains God’s established order in all things; from creation to Israel, marriage to tithing, and all before the law is even mentioned. But ultimately, this book points to Jesus as our Saviour, not only in obvious ways, but in its smaller details too.

About this study

Joseph had been forgotten in Jail, yet in the two long years that followed (and the 11 in Egypt that preceded it) he never acted poorly – rather, at every turn he honoured God. Naturally there is much to us learn from that. But also, we see great example in this chapter as he was brought before Pharaoh to interpret his dreams – for rather than use it as an opportunity for self promotion, he gave glory to God.

Application questions

  • Do we demonstrate the character of Christ? Do we point to Him?
  • Are we waiting well? Are we patient? Are we drawing close to God?
  • Are we drawing attention to ourselves, or to Christ?
  • Do people see Jesus and His Holy Spirit in us?
  • Are we putting the former things behind, and pressing toward the goal of the upward call of God?
  • Are you being diligent to store up God’s Word in your heart?
