Whether it’s on the top of the Christmas tree, the Christmas lights in the High Street, or in the school Christmas play, we often see angels displayed at Christmas. But what part did they have to play in that first Christmas some 2000 years ago? Well, they got to bring the wonder of the good news to the shepherds, declaring “Glory to God in the highest. Peace, goodwill toward men”. This wasn’t merely describing peace from God, but peace with God, because 33 years later Jesus would die on a cross in our place, to pay for all the wrong we have ever done, meaning that we can approach God as our Saviour, rather than as our judge.
