About this book

Galatians is one of 9 letters that the apostle Paul wrote to churches, or groups of churches, and was likely written around 55AD. It’s theme is grace and justification by faith alone, and it was written in response to those who had entered the church, attempting to convince others that certain works, actions, or customs were required in order to be saved. But as Paul directly explains, to believe such would mean that Jesus was wasting His time in dying on the cross, when in fact His death was required for our salvation, that we might be saved by grace – by what He has done, not what we have done.

About this study

Verses 1-10, detail Paul’s third post-conversion visit to Jerusalem, where he meets Peter, James and John. While there he shares the good news he has been preaching (which was indeed the purpose of his visit), to find that it was identical to that which they had been preaching. In the second half of this chapter, from verses 11-21, we read how Peter went to Antioch, where Paul had been ministering, and there is a matter that Peter needed correcting on — and we see wisdom and maturity in how that takes place.

• Are we more fearful of man, than we are of God?
• Where correction is required, are we willing to give it, or receive it?
• Are we kind in our delivery of correction? Are we humble in receiving it?
