Simply teaching the Bible, simply

Hope

This study was taught at our Sunday evening service by Matt Randall on the 7th February 2021. You can listen to the audio on this web page or save it for later listening.

During this study we looked at what the Bible has to say about hope, considering the following:

  • What is hope?
  • What is our hope?
  • What is the reason for hope?
  • 1 Peter 1:3-25
  • How do we gain hope?

During our study, we looked at the following passages from the Bible:

  • 1 Timothy 1:1-2
  • Titus 2:11-14
  • Colossians 1:27
  • Galatians 5:5
  • Titus 1:1-3
  • Colossians 1:3-5
  • 2 Corinthians 3:12-13
  • Hebrews 6:19-20
  • 1 Thessalonians 5:7-8
  • 1 John 3:2-3
  • Romans 5:1-5
  • 2 Timothy 4:6-8

In considering our main passage (and reading) this evening (1 Peter 1:3-25):

  • Greatly rejoice
  • Praise, honour and glory at the revelation of Jesus
  • Rejoice with Joy inexpressible
  • Gird up the loins
  • Be obedient
  • Be holy
  • Fear the Lord
  • Love one another fervently with a pure heart

Hope is one the Theological virtues. This means that a continual looking forward to the eternal world is not (as some modern people think) a form of escapism or wishful thinking, but one of the things a Christian is meant to do. It does not mean that we are to leave the present world as it is. If you read history you will find that the Christians who did most for the present world were just those who though most of the next.
