DCF is located in the coastal town of Deal, Kent in England. This quiet town is on the edge of the English Channel (on a clear day we can see France from the beach), just a few miles from the busy port of Dover and around 90 minutes drive from London.

Travelling by car

The two motorways that serve the area are the M20 and M2(A2) so we have directions from each;

Driving via the M20

If you are heading from the West and travelling anti-clockwise round the M25 then take the M26 link road (quite a few miles long), following signs for Dover. You will end up travelling on the M20, and again follow signs for Dover (you will pass Maidstone, Ashford, the Channel Tunnel/Eurotunnel terminals and Folkestone).

As you reach Dover you will descend down to the port area and keep going straight through multiple sets of traffic lights. You will eventually come to the round-about at the entrance to the main port of Dover where you will need to take the second exit – travelling up Jubilee Way, the notable bridge that goes over the port area.

At the top of this road there is another round-about where you should take the third exit signposted for Deal.

Driving via the M2/A2

If you are heading from Medway, London or the north (travelling round the M25 clockwise) take the turning for the M2 (A2) signposted for Dover/Canterbury. Continue along the A2 which will turn into the M2. At junction 7 (also the end of the M2) take the slip road sign posted Dover/Canterbury (A2). Continue along the A2, passing Canterbury, and through a number of sets of traffic lights after which the road will reduce to single-lane.

Eventually you will reach the Whitfield round-about near Dover (you will see McDonald’s on your left) where you should take the second exit (straight ahead) signposted for Dover. At the next round-about take the first exit signposted for Deal.

Once you are on the A258

Keep following this road without turning off, and after you pass Deal castle on your right hand side you will have a number of one-way roads that you can turn right into – these will all take you to the sea front where you should turn left.

When you reach a round-about (with Deal pier and the sea visible to your right) you should turn left, taking the second exit to travel away from the sea-front through the town centre. At the second set of traffic lights continue straight ahead, over the bridge following the road. As you descend down the other side of the bridge, prepare to turn right (you will see Deal Fire station on your right).

Turn right into Albert Road, and immediately turn left into Sutherland Road – continue to the end where you will enter the main church gates.

Travelling by train

Deal train station is about a 5 minute walk from DCF and coming from London you will arrive passing through Dover Priory, Martin Mill and Walmer stations. If you are coming from Canterbury you will need to change trains at Dover Priory (try and leave Canterbury East on the hour to get a quick connection at Dover, as there can be approximately a 40 minute wait for connections at Dover if your journey starts at half-past the hour from Canterbury East).

If coming from Ramsgate (also from Canterbury West) your last stop before Deal will be Sandwich (so you will need to cross the foot bridge to exit the correct side of Deal station to get to DCF easily).

Exit the station (opposite side to main station building) and once at the top of the hill turn right to head down the hill. As you reach Deal Fire station you will be able to see the entrance to Sutherland Road ahead of you – walk down this road where you will find the entrance to DCF.
